Election Commission (EC) has announced the number of seats secured by the political parties in the Provincial Assembly elections under Proportional Representation (PR) system today.

Among 220 seats allocated under PR category, CPN-UML has 75 seats, NC has secured 72 seats, CPN (Maoist Center) has 35 seats. Similarly, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal 13 seats, Rastriya Janta Party (RJP) 12 seats, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Bibeksheel Sajha Party have got 3 seats each, Rastriya Janamorcha 2 seats while Naya Shakti Party Nepal, Federal Democratic National Forum, Nepal Federal Socialist Party, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) have to be satisfied with a single seat each.

According to the EC, CPN UML has secured 15 seats in Province-1, 7 seats in Province-2, 16 seats in Province-3, 10 seats in Province-4, 13 seats in Province-5, 6 seats in Province-6 and 8 seats in Province-7.

Likewise Nepali Congress has secured 13 seats in Province-1, 11 seats in Province-2, 14 seats in Provice-3, 9 seats in Province -4, 12 seats in Province-5, 5 seats in Province-6 and 8 seats in Province-7.

CPN (Maoist Center) has secured 5 seats each in Province 1 and 2, 8 seats in Province-3, 3 seats in Pvince-4, 6 seats in Province-5 and 4 seats seats each in Province-6 and 7.

Federal Socialist Forum Nepal secured 2 seats in Province-1, 9 seats in Province-2, 2 seats in Province-5 while it did not get any seats in other provinces.

Similarly, Rastriya Janta Party has got 10 seats in Province-2 and 1 seat each in Province 5 and 7.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party has secured 1 seat each in Province 1 and 3.

Bibeksheel Sajha Party has obtained 3 seats in Province-3, Naya Shakti Party Nepal secured 1 seat in Province-4, Rastritya Janamorcha obtained 1 seat each in Province 4 and 5.

Federal Democratic National Forum, Nepal Federal Socialist Party, Nepal Workers and Peasants Paryt and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) have secured 1 seat in Province 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

A temporary police has been killed in a clash between Nepal Police and temporary police in Kalikot district today. The injured temporary police Bibek Aidi of Shannitriveni rural municiplty-4 died in course of treatment at the district hospital Kalikot.

He succumbed to the bullet injuries sustained during the action carried out by police against the temporary police's protest.

The temporary police are protesting in different parts of the country over their payment issues.

Meanwhile, 10 children have gone missing when police fired teargas in the protest as the education fair was taking place nearby the protest area.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged the ruling Nepali Congress to end the political deadlock by considering constitution, laws, regulations and democratic values.

President Bhandari urged this in a meeting with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and other senior leaders in Sheetal Niwas today.

President's chief secretary Bheshraj Adhikari told media that the matters relating to ordinance on the formation of national assembly and current political developments were discussed during the meeting.

A meeting of major political parties held to forge consensus on National Assembly formation election process has ended inconclusively.

The meeting of top leaders of the five major political parties held at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar discussed on the ordinance related to formation of National Assembly which is stuck at the office of the President, and the formation of a new government. 

On the occasion, Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the Nepali Congress, Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal are in favour of the single transferable voting system for National Assembly election.

Stating all parties except CPN (UML) are agreed for single transferable vote, leader Poudel said the incumbent government has been urged to pave way for handing over the power.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayankaji Shrestha informed after the meeting that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba urged for the consensus in the ordinance in the meeting today and no consensus was forged in this regard.

Leader Shrestha said that discussion was also held regarding formation of a new government after people's mandate of elections.

Present in the meeting were NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Presidium Coordinator of RJP-Nepal Mahantha Thakur, Chairperson of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Upendra Yadav, among others.

The Carter Center has said that recently-held elections in Nepal were in accordance with International Standard.

The Carter Center has today issued a post-election statement detailing its findings related to Nepal's vote counting process.

These findings remain preliminary, pending the announcement of election results and the resolution of any disputes. A final report that includes recommendations to help strengthen the conduct of future elections in Nepal will be published in early 2018.

In its statement, the Center noted that in the counting centers where observers, had sufficient access, counting took place in a manner that was generally consistent with international standards, despite widespread deviations from established procedures.

Irrigation Minister Sanjaya Gautam today viewed that the National Assembly (NA) election ordinance presented to President in line with laws should be approved.

Speaking at an interaction organized by the Reporters Club in the Capital, Minister Gautam stressed the need for its approval to give the full shape to the federal parliament.

The Irrigation Minister also viewed that it would be indecent to unnecessarily drag President into controversies in relation to the issue, as she could use her constitutional rights to approve the ordinance that was brought in line with the single transferable voting system, part of the proportional representation system.

Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Anup Raj Sharma has said economic, social and cultural aspects of the Dalit community could not be strengthened until their political rights were ensured.

While addressing a seminar on the theme of ‘Economic, social and cultural rights of Dalit community: Challenges and opportunities’ held today in the Capital, chairperson Sharma also emphasized on taking both their political and economic rights hand in hand for overall development.

Nepal was ranked the 170th position in the recent last rankings.&nbsp;</span><br></p><p><br></p><p>Among the South Asian countries where Nepal falls into the fourth position, India tops the rankings securing the 105th position. Likewise, Afghanistan comes second in the 148th position followed by Maldives in the 155th position.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Similarly, Bhutan has got the 187th position followed by Bangladesh in the 197th position. Sri Lanka has attained the 200th position and Pakistan the 201st position.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Germany is in the first position followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, France and Chile in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th positions respectively.</p>
