Nepal has become the champion in the recently-held 8th International Karate Championship with the total 94 medals to its credit.

India stood second with the total 51 medals (nine gold, 13 silver and 29 bronze) followed by Bhutan in third position with a total of nine medals (six gold, two silver and one bronze). The medals won by Nepal include 23 gold, 23 silver and 48 bronze.

Likewise, Sri Lanka bagged seven medals (two gold, one silver and four bronze), while Bangladesh five medals (one gold, two silver and two bronze).

The competition that was concluded on Thursday, was participated by the total 243 athletes from Nepal, 180 from India, 19 from Sri Lanka, nine from Bangladesh, seven from Bhutan, and five from Pakistan.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to call back Minister for Urban Development, Dilnath Giri, from the government.

Party Spokesperson Bhuwan Pathak said that the party decided to recall Minister Giri from the post for carrying out activities against party norms and values, adding they have sent a letter to the Prime Minister for the same.

Talking to the Press, Minister Giri said that he has also heard this rumor and expressed the view that any leader could face action anytime if party chairman becomes a dictator.

The National Tuberculosis Centre (NTC) is set to conduct an extensive national tuberculosis prevalence survey, the first of its kind, from January, 2018.

NTC’s director Dr Kedar Narsingh KC has said under this study situation of new and old TB patients will be studied.

He said the study will help find out the number of new and old TB patients, their situation and the rate of new patient addition every year, he said.

The government has launched various programmes with the aim to relieve the country of the disease by 2050.

NTC’s planning chief Anil Thapa said approximately 44,000 new TB patients are added every year. ##
173 poor Dalit families of Dadeldhura to get cemented houses

The Urban Development Ministry has been constructing 173 houses in Dadeldhura district in the current fiscal year under the People's Housing Programme.

The Office of the Urban Development and Building Construction Division has said construction works of houses targeting the poorest Dalit families of Amargadhi municipality, Ganyapdhura rural municipality and Ajaymeru rural municipality under the programme have already been started and the construction of the houses would be completed in the current fiscal year.

The government will provide 335,000 Rupees to each family by forming beneficiaries' group under the program.

Forty-seven cases related to human rights violation took place in Bara district in 2017, according to Bara chapter of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC).

At a review programme of Nepal Human Rights Year Book, INSEC representative Laxmi Shah said that incidents related to human rights violation have decreased in 2017 as compared to 2016.

A total of 10 incidents related to violation, nine rape cases, four related to attempt to rape, four related to polygamy, six related to misbehave occurred in the district in 2017.

Similarly, two incidents related to child health, four related to beating, and six related to illegal arms were recorded during the year.

The Nepal Students Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, has staged demonstrations in the Capital today demanding relocation of the Balaju-based Nepal Gas Company.

NSU’s General Secretary Kundan Raj Kafle, a protestor, asked the concerned authorities to take initiatives to move the gas refilling plant elsewhere away from human settlement.

Likewise, another agitator Debendra Pathak, chairman of the Nepali Congress ward 16, said as part of their drive, they would start a signature campaign from tomorrow (December 30).

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has authenticated the ordinance on election to the National Assembly today

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that she authenticated the ordinance related to the election of the National Assembly for putting to an end the dispute between the political parties on the issue and the subsequent political deadlock.

The Head-of-the-State said this in a meeting with Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba at Shital Niwas today.

The government had presented the ordinance to the President in the third week of October for authentication.
