<p><span style="line-height: 1.42857;">A special time frame of 48 hours before the commencement of the election, known as special period begins from tonight for the first phase local level election being held on May 14. </span><br></p><p>The political parties and independent candidates are not allowed to make election related publicity once the silent period begins. Issuing a press release, the Election Commission, made aware the political parties that they are prohibited to make publicity for and against any party/candidates in the silent period. </p><p>Similarly, the major political parties have collectively committed to implementing the election code and making the election management smooth. The main leaders of the big political parties signed on a commitment paper after attending the Election Commission's discussion on election preparations, security arrangement, code of conduct, and voters' education. </p><p>The commitment paper reads, "We internalize the fact that we have the leading role on smooth management of the local level election the country is holding by bearing in mind that the election is the foundation of democracy; and free, fair and credible election contributes to good governance with the consolidation of democracy and strengthening of governance." </p><p>Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy leader of CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party, Subas Nembang, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Democratic Forum, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Buddhiman Tamang, Coordinator of the Naya Shakti Nepal, Dr Baburam Bhatatrai, Federal Socialist Party leader, Rajendra Shrestha, signed the commitment letter. </p>
