Local level elections as scheduled: PM

<p><span style="line-height: 1.42857;">Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said that the government is committed for holding local-level elections at any cost.&nbsp;</span><br></p><p>Welcoming leaders and cadres into his party at a function held at his private residence in Lazimpat yesterday, he said the filing of nominations for the election tomorrow will begin the process of the first phase of elections.&nbsp;</p><p>Stating that the registration of the impeachment motion has created a new wave in politics, the Prime Minister said the motion will follow its due parliamentary process, while not having any impact on the elections. The constitution amendment process shall also move ahead accordingly.&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Centre) has come up with the conclusion that the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice is an issue of separation of power and jurisdiction of the three state organs.&nbsp;</p><p>A headquarter meeting of the party held at Prime Minister residence, Baluwatar, yesterday evening reached the conclusion that the impeachment motion has been registered against the tendency of Chief Justice to meddle with jurisdiction of the executive.&nbsp;</p><p>Putting his remarks on the recent political situation of the country and the required role of his party, Prime Minister and CPN-MC Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said though apparently the impeachment motion against CJ has been associated to Nepal Police officer appointment, it is however the issue of jurisdiction by virtue.&nbsp;</p><p>PM Prachanda said the motion is not that of the government rather it has been registered by the parliamentarians as per the constitutional provision.&nbsp;</p><p>The PM said that the motion was not targeted against the judiciary but personal working style and conducts of the Chief Justice and the move would not weaken the judiciary rather make the state organ further transparent, accountable and effective.&nbsp;</p><p>Responding to the queries, Chairperson Dahal said the impeachment motion will not affect election and constitution amendment process.&nbsp;</p><p>The meeting also clarified that the impeachment motion is under the jurisdiction of parliament and the party would play supportive role to bring the proposal to a logical conclusion.&nbsp;</p><p>Various central committee members of the party had put their opinion in the meeting called to discuss several issues including two phases of civic polls on May 14 and June 14 and constitution amendment.&nbsp;</p><div><br></div>
