<p>At least 57 al-Shabab fighters were killed after African Union (AU) and Somali forces attacked one of the armed group's camps in the southern region of Juba.</p><p>In a post on Twitter, AU's peacekeeping mission in Somalia said that vehicles and equipment were destroyed in Thursday's morning assault on the al-Shabab base outside Afmadow, a town about 100km inland from the Somali port of Kismayo.</p><p>However, the al-Shabab has said the armed group's fighters had ambushed Kenyan soldiers, prompting them to call in air support, and the armed group had lost no one in the clashes.</p><p><b>Palmyra: Syrian forces 'completely retake' IS-held town</b></p><p>Syrian government forces and their Russian backers have completely recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra from so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.</p><p>The army and other pro-government forces were reported to have entered deep into the city after IS pulled out. It ends the second occupation of Palmyra by the jihadists. <br><br><br></p>
