New laws to be formulated to make disaster management effective: Minister Sharma

Minister for Home Affairs, Janardan Sharma, has said that the government has accelerated search, rescue and relief to the victims of natural disaster recently occurred at different places of the country.

In today's meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, Home Minister Sharma said that a total of 15 people were killed, seven have gone missing and five were injured in the country due to natural disaster including flood, landslide and lightning so far since June 27 this year.

He said, the ministry has made arrangement for rescue and relief as well as expenses to families of the deceased for performing the last rites, food grains and other goods to the victims as well as shifting to safer places.

Saying the government has also made arrangement of free treatment to those injured in natural disaster and made relief and rescue effective through necessary coordination with District-based Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee and mobilizing it, Home Minister Sharma said that the Ministry has been doing necessary homework to formulate new laws and amend the existing law to make disaster management more effective in days ahead.
