The Metropolitan Police Range has tightened security in the Kathmandu valley for the May 14 local-level elections.

The security arrangements aim to avert any untoward incidents and make a fear-free environment during the polls, said Spokesperson for the police range Pradhumna Kumar Karki.

So far a total of 5,633 suspected persons were briefly held for investigation, he said.

Likewise, arrangements have been made in coordination with Lalitpur and Bhaktapur police to carry out a security check round the clock in all transit points to the valley to curb supply of illegal arms, explosive, drugs and other materials, he said.
