The Government is ready to provide all necessary legal, administrative, technical and other support to the Election Commission in holding the forthcoming elections.
The Constitution requires that local, provincial and parliamentary elections are held within the next eighteen months.
While visiting the EC headquarters in Kantipath this afternoon to acquire information about the state of affairs of the Commission, PM KP Sharma Oli assured that government is prepared to support EC to hold elections in time.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Minister for Law and Justice Agni Prasad Kharel and Chief Secretary Dr Som Lal Subedi.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli also directed the Commission to get itself prepared as the government will soon be announcing the date of local elections in consultation with the political parties, according to Law Minister Kharel.
Acting Chief Commissioner Dr Yadav said the Commission is all prepared to hold elections and that it is possible to hold local elections in coming November/December. He, however, said that the local body working procedures act needs to be amended for the local body elections.
