Prof Dr Govinda KC, senior orthopaedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) has begun his 12th fast-onto-death, putting forth a five-point demand.
Prior to this, he spoke at a press conference inside the TUTH boundary to inform the media about his decision to stage the 12 round of protest.
He said his fresh protest was against the government preparations to pass the much-talked and much-awaited National Medical Education Bill- 2074 BS from the Legislature-Parliament without amendment.
His demands include endorsement of the Bill by incorporating the recommendations of the Mathema Committee Report and his personal suggestions as well, dismissal of TU officials from the posts, investigations into the (alleged) embezzlement by recently removed Executive Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and recovery of the amount if he proved guilty, immediate resumption of class at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, commencement of works to establish medical colleges in different parts of the country and address of the demands raised by Nepal Medical Association.
The Kathmandu University should charge the MBBS fees as fixed by the government, states a charter of demands put forth by Dr KC who expressed his concern over the government's apathy to address his demands.
