Prof Dr Govinda KC, who had been staging fast-unto-death at Teaching Hospital demanding reforms in medical education and health sector, broke his hunger strike after signing a 12-point agreement with the government today.
It was Dr KC's 10th round of hunger strike and the longest one- 22 days. Dr KC broke the fast-unto-death after taking a glass of juice from two and half years old Marsang Tamang of Sindhupalchok, in presence of media persons and well wishers.
Talking to media persons after breaking the hunger strike, Dr KC said that he was struggling for reforms in overall medical education sector and health service.
He said, it is because of the political influence, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University has not resigned. However, agreement has been made to carry out investigation over his capacity. I would struggle again if investigation was not carried out.
The senior orthopedic surgeon, however, said it was not good to continue the hunger strike at a time when the country has begun witnessing agitations in several places owing to constitution amendment bill.
Arguing TU Vice-Chancellor have to tender his resignation at any cost, Dr KC clarified that he would continue his struggle until the implementation of the agreement.
